                     GENERAL INTEREST

    Auckland Railway Station

    Auckland Railway Station opened in 1930, replacing the previous railway terminus on Queen Street where the former CPO Building now exists and was the sole railway station serving the CBD until its closure in July 2003, when services were moved to the new Britomart Transport Centre.

    Demolition continues across the Auckland Central clearing the way for many projects including the new Hyatt Hotel in Wynyard Quarter, St James Suites, Queens Residences, Fort Street Tower...and many more developments.

    438 Queen Street Demolition

    Saturday 7 May saw the final stage of demolition of the former Campbell Motors, Hayes Motors and more recently Real Groovy Records building, making way for the new Conrad Development's 'Queens Residences' to be constructed by Scarbro Construction.

    Liebherr Litronic LR 1280 Lift Crane

    For the crane enthusiast, Smiths Cranes & Construction dismantled the Queens Residence's tower crane during April using a Liebherr Litronic LR 1280 Lift Crane, mobilised along Wakefield Street. Great to watch and to appreciate the engineering of the crane assembly.

    Goodbye Downtown Shopping Centre

    On Saturday 29 May the Downtown Shopping Centre closed to make way for Precinct Properties' 'Commercial Bay' commercial office tower & retail centre.
